Highwoods Neighborhood Food Drive to Benefit the STMA Food Pantry – June 7, 2025

Thanks for inquiring about the upcoming Food Drive. The Highwoods Neighborhood Food Drive will benefit the recently opened STMA Food Pantry, located in Albertville.

On Saturday, June 7, my family and I will be parked at Highwoods Park, located at 12745 Frankfort Parkway, collecting non-perishable food items from 11:00 a.m. to Noon. Thereafter, we’ll be winding our way through the Highwoods neighborhood, starting with the townhomes. If your home is located in the Highwoods neighborhood and you are interested in having your food donations picked up, please leave them on your front step in a plastic bag.

If you are interested in more information about the STMA Food Pantry, or ways to donate, please visit their website at STMAFoodPantry.org.

What’s with the Ducks? The Duck Story…

While the story may vary, the essence of the “Duck, Duck, Jeep” or “ducking” phenomenon goes a little like this…

Back in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a Jeep owner named Allison had an unpleasant encounter with another patron at a gas station while traveling across the country to visit family in Canada. To cool down after the interaction, Allison planned a stop at a friend’s place. As a thank you to her friend, she bought a bag of rubber duckies, intending to hide them around his home as a joke. However, before she could do that, she noticed another Jeep parked in the lot. On a whim, she took out one duck and placed it on the stranger’s Jeep with a simple note saying “Nice Jeep.”

This random act of kindness was meant to provide a small pick-me-up for the Jeep owner. After the recipient shared a post about it on social media, the trend quickly gained traction, becoming an underground movement aimed at spreading smiles to all involved.

For those who know me, I’ve driven a Jeep for many years. You may have seen me driving through the area while out and about shopping, visiting friends, volunteering, or meeting with Sellers or Buyers. My twin daughters, Shannon and Kelly, and I have participated in “ducking” for years, and still do to this day.

Thank You!

For those donating to my upcoming food drive to benefit the STMA Food Pantry, I’ll be leaving a token “thank you” gift by your door (Highwoods neighbors) OR handing off a “thank you” for those dropping off items at Highwoods Park between 11:00 a.m. and Noon. I appreciate your willingness to join me in supporting the needs of the community we love.
